Burlendi Youth Shelter
Burlendi Youth Housing is a residential program staffed by trained and understanding youth workers that provides accommodation services for young people aged 15 to 17 years of age.
Burlendi Youth Housing is funded as part of the Inner North and North East Youth Homelessness Services, funded through the Department of Communities and Social Inclusion under National Affordable Housing Agreement (NAHA) and National Partnership Agreement on Homelessness (NPAH).
Burlendi provides Emergency-Short Term (3-12 month) housing for up to 8 homeless young people at a time. It is often the first time for some while that the young person has been in an environment with care and support to deal with the issues in their lives.
The shelter is staffed 24 hours a day, so there is always someone on hand to deal with any issues that need to be resolved.
Burlendi is located in the Northern suburbs of Adelaide, an area of socio-economic disadvantage and high need.
Clients are usually in receipt of the Independent Youth Allowance from Centrelink.
They are required to pay board and to pay for their own living expenses, bus tickets, clothing, recreation etc.
Essential facilities such as public transport, shopping, offices of the various Government departments and community resources are all within easy reach.
The house itself is large, and each client has their own bedroom and access to shared living areas. We also have a well-equipped recreation room where clients can spend their leisure time and 'let off some steam'.
