Are you 16 years old or over? Do you want to be aware of, alert to, and how to respond if someone you know may be thinking about suicide?
According to recent statistics released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (2016), approximately eight children and young people die by suicide every week in Australia.
The impact of suicide has reached a critical point and families, communities and schools are continuing to look at ways they can come together to encourage young people to seek help and prevent suicide.
safeTALK is a program designed to support young people and community members aged 16 and over to be aware of, and alert to, suicide and consider how to respond if they recognise that someone in their lives may be thinking about suicide. The program is designed to build stronger, safer communities, where suicide is acknowledged and seeking help is encouraged.
headsapce Edinburgh North is hoping to support Gawler Council to become a suicide safer environment, where interested young people are trained in safeTALK and can support their peers and the wider community.
Location: Gawler Sport and Community Centre, Nixon Terrace, Gawler.
