Northern Region Sports Academy

To be a vibrant central hub of sport in the north

Support the development of coaches, officials and athletes through the various sport academies.

The Northern Region Sports Academy (NRSA) Inc was officially established in 2005. The brainchild behind the Academy was Ricky Simpson (Stadium Manager at STARplex), who identified the need for a program that not only developed the skills of players with elite potential, but also aligned itself to the entire northern region and the relevant state sporting organisations. Since the NRSA inception it has expanded its scope to develop not only athletes but also coaches and officials.

In 2017 the Academy formally restructured into the Northern Region Sports Alliance Inc (NRSA), with a change to the constitution at a Special Meeting. Our Vision is now ‘to be a vibrant central hub for sport in the north’. To this end the NRSA mission is to ‘facilitate training, networking and collaborative opportunities to support sporting clubs and their members’.

The alliance is affiliated with sports such as basketball, tennis, baseball, softball, swimming and football (AFL). The northern region has some of the best coaches and facilities to enable our athletes to pursue the elite pathway.

The organisation is solely run by volunteers who continue to strive for sporting excellence in the northern region. We currently have eight board members who have specific skills in the areas of coaching, playing, administrating, governance, managing media and promotion.

Key Objectives:

Talent development programs and pathways in collaboration with local government and peak sporting bodies that will provide for the development of young athletes, coaches and officials in their chosen sports and contribute to improving the quality of community based sport.

Through high quality training programs, competition opportunities and a range of support services assist athletes, coaches and officials to achieve their full potential in sport and life.

Provide ‘grass roots’ sports promotions for schools and community clubs to improve sports participation for boys and girls in the primary school years.

To address the current under representation of the region in sport at state and national level and compliment and support endorsed high performance sports pathways and structures.
